When I consider the practice of meditation, I think of the value and importance of listening to God. Effective prayer also incorporates listening, but it often focuses on bringing our petitions and intercessions before God. The Latin root of the word “meditate” has the meaning of reflection or contemplation. Taking time to reflect and observe divine grace, love and forgiveness gives us the opportunity to find quietness and peace in God’s presence. Meditation always includes our hearts. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).
