Several years ago I regularly visited a wonderful man who knew he was losing his eyesight. He shared with me his plan to do the best he could with this reality. He had begun walking through his house occasionally with his eyes closed and his senses alert to the locations of furniture and other items. When he told me this, I felt such a renewed sense of respect and admiration for this man. His sight became weaker, but his insight grew stronger and wiser. “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out” (Proverbs 18:15).
