As Chaplain of the 43rd Engineer Battalion at Fort Benning 41 years ago, I took the army physical fitness test like everyone else. The timed events included the inverted crawl, sit-ups, push-ups, running and horizontal bars. After I completed the bars one second late, Battalion Executive Officer, Major Raymond Powell, took me out and showed me how to save time on the turn; then I quickly passed. I feel deep gratitude for his life and friendship. He recently went to be with our Lord. “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” (Proverbs 17:17).
