If there’s one thing that our nearly unlimited access to the world drives us toward, it’s nothing at all. I think we may be living less life than ever before. It’s never been easier for the majority of us to live our lives as a spectator to the adventurous few.
Have you heard about the hottest thing for kids to watch on YouTube? Apparently kids these days aren’t rushing straight to their favorite television shows anymore but are instead spending hours on end watching other children play with toys. One of the most successful YouTube accounts today revolves around a young boy who shares videos of himself playing with his toys. This innocent activity has garnered him 31 billion views in recent years.
I’m afraid we are missing the point of the beautiful life God has given us. I fear we are too slow to step into the glorious unknown of our potential and will end our long line of days having missed the chances we have to truly live and breathe and do what God intends for us to do.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.” — Mark Twain
What is something that is on your heart that God placed there for you to do today? What is the one thing that sparks your passion unlike any other? Let’s remember that God never intended for us to be bystanders. He didn’t create us to be spectators watching in amazement at the person across from us doing that which he gave us the potential to do ourselves. In him is a plan for each of us and fullness of joy.
"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Psalm 16:11
So choose today to throw off the bowlines. Stop watching others do what you wish you could do yourself and live a full life that honors God.
