The annual South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports All-Star Softball Games returns to USC Aiken this week, and two area athletes will be participating.
North Augusta's Emily Ayers and Strom Thurmond's Truett Taylor will be teammates on the 4A/3A South team. Ayers and Taylor are the only two area players participating in the all-star games.
Ayers batted .450 with three home runs, 11 doubles and 28 RBI this season. She has signed to play for USC Upstate this fall.
Taylor and the Rebels earned a No. 2 seed in the Class AAA playoffs and advanced to the District VIII championship.
The on-field action began Tuesday night with an All-Star Challenge Competition featuring a home run derby and various other competitions.
The first game is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The 4A/3A North team will face off against the 4A/3A South team.
The 5A/2A/1A North and South teams will follow that game at 8 p.m.
The two winning teams will face off Thursday at noon. The two losing teams will play at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
